Interview

The place I interviewed was a zoo called The Pittsburgh zoo. I interviewed them about their polar bears since they live in the arctic and I was curious about how they take care of them and if it is hard. I ask them three questions.

Question 1.
I you had to replace one of your polar bears, how hard would that be?

Not too difficult. Our polar bears are captive born, coming from some other zoo. We do not take polar bears from the wild.

Question 2.
How do you make sure your animals have the same habitat as they would in the arctic?

Obviously, we are in Pennsylvania, and we cannot completely replicate the Arctic environment here. We provide chilled marine water, air conditioning and plenty of shade to keep the bears comfortable.

Questions 3.
How difficult is it to care for your polar bears?

It isn’t too difficult, you must always be mindful that they are wild animals. Always secure locks, stay out of their reach and never even think about going in with them. The hardest part of their care is probably maintaining excellent water quality. That takes time, equipment and money.

I found the answers pretty helpful, I did wish they gave more details on some of the questions. Like number one. I figured that they didn't take animals out of the wild, but I wish I was able to ask the question differently. I wish that because It must be hard getting them, even if you inbreed them or get them from other zoo's. I wish they would of gone into more detail with that. But most of it was helpful and I did learn a lot from it.
